Thank you so much to Angie at The Novice Gardener for nominating me for the Liebster Award, Dragon’s Share Award and WordPress Family Award. If you haven’t checked out her blog, please do. Her love of food, family and photography are evident in each page and each recipe. Her stories are intriguing and resonate; her gift for writing is not to be missed. I adore reading her blog!

Thank you to Ada at More Food, Please, for nominating me for the WordPress Family Award. Ada’s culinary adventures eating out and in the kitchen are not to be missed. She shares her visits to amazing culinary destinations with us and is incredibly creative in the kitchen. I am constantly impressed by her inventive recipes – and she is always ready to take on a culinary challenge. Ada, you have Liebster and WordPress Family Awards. However, I would like to nominate you for the Dragon’s Share Award.

I am incredibly touched to be nominated for any award! It is so lovely to be recognized by other bloggers. To me, blogging is an award in and of itself. Since I began blogging, I have received support, kindness and encouragement from many. I have been inspired by other bloggers on a daily basis. What did I ever do before I blogged? I can’t imagine life without this wonderful outlet for my passion and community! Thank you to each and every one of you.

My nominees for all three awards, in no particular order, are below. Each of them have unique and excellent blogs. You won’t regret stopping by to “visit”! They have wonderful recipes and stories to share. Thank you to each of you for encouraging and supporting Curls and Carrots – it means so much to me.

Also, go and check out Liz at Food for Fun! She is a food scientist whose recipes never fail – and she is the sweetest, too! Please check out Massi at Massi Kitchen! Here, you will uncover amazing photos and fabulous recipes. Of course, John from Bartolini Kitchens and Stefan from Stefan Gourmet are amazing chefs and commanders of their kitchens. I am pretty much in awe of them both on a daily basis. I nominate these bloggers for the Dragon’s Share Award, along with the awesome Ada.

Anna at Anna Cuisine has an amazing, international blog that reflects her heritage, home of Hawaii and family. She does not accept awards any longer, but please check out her amazing blog.

Chef Janet Rorsachach has been instrumental in my blogging. She has guided me through the process, answered a million questions and believed in me. Oh, and her blog is flat-out awesome. Gorgeous photos and prose. She never fails to impress with her culinary pursuits and creativity! Please visit her blog.

    1. Thank you, Chef Janet. Thank you, thank you! 🙂 Oh, yes, I shall keep blogging – how could I not? It is such an enriching process and experience – and such a PRIVILEGE to be inspired by amazing bloggers everyday. 🙂

  1. Congratulations Shanna, for all the awards! Not only your speech is a good one, but I also enjoyed reading your random facts. I am delighted to have met you, and looking forward to more of our interactions. I will check out your nominees who are new to me. 😀

    1. Hi, Fae. Thank you! 🙂 The best part of the awards were passing them on. I spent the whole day looking through newer blogs and trying to compose some sort of a list. Your blog, of course, has a gazillion followers and a billion awards. I can see why. Your history, recipes, talent, warmth, mentorship, support – it means so much to many. Thank you, Fae – and keep on blogging. I do adore reading about recipes and experiences. I am glad that we have “met”! On an off-note, Persian food is my favorite ever. Your Persian recipes really inspire me to cook!

  2. Cheers for the liking my BuildingMyBento post about Jakarta, Shanna! Is a trip to Jakarta in your sights? Imagine seeing those things in New Mexico? Very confusing.

Peanut butter rice. How was yours?
I had the most well-known version, mafe, in Hong Kong, in a mess hall without windows or ventilation. The building is called Chungking Mansions. I’ve already said too much.

    1. Jonathan… Thank you so much for your kind words. I do appreciate it much. 🙂

If a trip to Jakarta was in my future, I would be incredibly fortunate. I love to travel and see new places and connect to people, food and countries that are far away from my home-base. There really isn’t much better than going far away and finding a bit of home – in the food, the art, whatever it may be. The human connection.

Maybe one day my kids will travel and see places that I did not have the opportunity to as a young one. 🙂 I live in New Mexico, yes, but it is for the next year – Our road is wide-open. I look forward to reading your posts and discovering your adventures through your words and photos.

Do tell me me more about mafe in Hong Kong. How fascinating. This sounds like a fascinating blog post. Stories are my favorite!

You can never say too much. We all have a lot to share – and much to be enriched by.

      Have a great weekend. 🙂 – Shanna

  3. Congratulations Shanna! What I most love about these awards is reading the things you write about you. Sorry to hear about Mr. Morgan, truly.
I love cheese too… hey, why don’t we open a cheese shop! 😉

    1. Cheese shop. In Europe. Yes. YES. Sounds like heaven on earth! We would certainly eat well!

Thank you for your kind words about our Morgan – we do miss him so much.

I hope that you accept your nominations – I would love to see what you write about! 🙂

      1. AND we could make raclettes and fondues every day!!
I’m extremely flattered with the awards, however I already have a post on them 🙂 I’ll see what I do! Congratulations again xxx

    Melissa

  7. Thanks for nominating me and congratulations on being nominated. I am so glad I found your blog. I love this one: “I eat dark chocolate – and drink red wine – every day.” I think I should follow suit, LOL. Thanks for telling me a little bit more about yourself ( a lot more). I enjoyed reading about it. Have a great week!

    1. Hi, Liz. Yes – DO follow suit. A little red wine and dark chocolate certainly won’t hurt anyone… Never once did I hear “I had a glass of delicious wine and a bit of rich chocolate…. and felt incredibly sad.” Hehe! I prescribe you a glass and a nosh starting tonight. Thank you for your sweet note. I appreciate your warm words – and your visit. Take good care! – Shanna

      1. I had a glass of red wine last night. I probably will start having a glass once or twice a week, like Friday and Saturday night. Have a great day!

  8. How great that you thought of “Rice-Peanut-Butter-Combo” at age 4….wow! that was certainly something worth writing about. I love peanut butter rice, with coconut. So yummy!!!!

    1. Hi, Liz… Yes, I linked your recipe – it looks so great! It brought back memories of the time I made peanut butter rice as a young child. 🙂 Again, you inspire me – this time, to remember. Have a lovely day. – Shanna

  9. Aloha Shanna! What an honor to be recognized for my blog. Thank you for being so supportive to your fellow bloggers and for sharing your amazing blog with all of us. Jazz, classical and opera, Yay! (Making bread on Sunday morning with Mozart and Beethoven!)

    1. Aloha, Kiyo!

I have adopted the phrase – I can imagine myself in Hawaii with a click of my heels and those two, magic words. Making bread on a Saturday morning with listening to great composers – life does not get much better? Live once and live well – enjoy every second – I can see that you do. Thank you for sharing your exquisite photos, warm words and scrumptious food with me. Thank you for your generous comment, too. Be well, Kiyo.
      Best wishes,
      Shanna

  10. Congratulations, Shanna, for receiving these awards. You are most deserving of any that come your way. I enjoyed reading and learning a bit more about you and your lovely family. Thanks, too, for nominating me and with such kind words. This was a great way to be welcomed back home again. 🙂
